| Innocence As A Death Sentence | |||||
| My mama used to say, “Birds of a feather flock together.” That may not necessarily be true today, for far too many sparrows are trying to fly with rotten flocks of vultures and the results are disastrous. In ever-increasing instances, the company our kids keep could mean their lives or their deaths! Just ask the family of Lori Gonzales, the innocent, bright and beautiful granddaughter of L.A. City Councilmember and retired Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard Parks. One week before her 21st birthday, she was tragically murdered in 2000 by mistake. A Mistake???!!! Her childhood “friend,” the passenger in her car, was supposed to take the bullet in a senseless gang dispute. Lori’s death was “just a tragic accident,” when her friend ducked and she took the hit. It was a youth, just a couple of years younger, who was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole (l.w.o.p.). |
